Kosmos Consulting is an independent business established in 2004 to provide food safety and quality systems support to food manufacturers, processors and supply chain and storage operations.

Our services will help you to satisfy the ever-evolving demands of your customers, regulators and consumers and keep abreast of latest regulatory and technological changes and emerging hazards.

The focus we have is on strengthening your business to support growth and protecting your business from reputational damage or regulatory violation. This will be achieved by ensuring that design and systems, validation, monitoring, verification are all in place, reviewed, and working well. Additionally, horizon scanning for trends or emerging hazards to ensure there will be no surprises in the future.

Services offered
Process Improvement

Assisting in re-design of operations in terms of new or changed plant and equipment, process flow, floor plan, infrastructural changes or implementation of new procedures or standards.

Project Work

Project work relating to any food safety, quality, regulatory or systems aspects including communicating with suppliers, regulators or 3rd party agencies (certification bodies) if required.

Food Safety and Quality Management

Assisting in developing, reviewing or internal auditing of:
· Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS): FSSC 22000 or ISO 22000
· Product Certification Standards: BRC Global Standard
· HACCP
· Regulatory Programmes: Food Act 2014 and Wine Act 2003
· Food Labelling

Technical Support and Problem Solving

Investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as well as development and assistance to execute corrective and preventive action (CAPA). This could be due to customer complaints, verification failures, laboratory test results, supplier non compliances, issues identified in internal or external audits or observed failures in system or operations.

Qualifications
· BSc Chemistry 1985 (Victoria University of Wellington)
· Dip Teaching 1987 (Wellington Teachers College)
· Lead Auditor Training Course (based on ISO9001) 5 day, Exemplar Global

Professional Experience
Although Kosmos Consulting was established in 2004 it has been inactive from 2005-2022. Examples of recent clients include Farrah Breads and two certification bodies (Telarc & FSQL) conducting Food Act and Wine Act verifications as well as HACCP audits.

Chris has been working in the food industry since 1990 at which time he was Laboratory Supervisor at Tasman Milk Products (later to become Fonterra) in Takaka (near Nelson in NZ). Over the course of the next 34 years, he has worked in the following sectors in NZ and the UAE in food safety, quality and regulatory roles:
· Dairy (milk powders, casein/ates, butter, cheese, liquid milks, cultured products and AMF)
· Baking (bread items, pastry products, cakes and biscuits)
· Seafood (mussels)
· Wine (blending & bottling)
· Beverages (bottled drinking water and juice)
· Flour milling
· Poultry (hatchery, broiler, layer and meat processing)
· Animal feed milling
· Other e.g. tomato paste, IQF fruit/vegetable
